En français: Les pagaies du gourmet.
Christmas is coming soon, and some of you may be looking for the perfect gift. If you're searching for something special that'll please a gourmet friend, you're in luck: I've got something more than great for you. How do I know it will make a perfect gift? Because I did receive those as Christmas gifts, and not only once ;-)
At the annual Christmas gift exchange three years ago, my sister-in-law offered me a «pagaie-perche». Never had I seen such a magnificent kitchen ustensil. At first, I even doubted I'd have the heart to use it, fearing I'd ruin it. It's been a long way since then, and my pagaie-perche, which have seen various curries, sautés and much more, is now irrevocably stained. But hey, that's a kitchen spoon, right? ;-)
The pagaie-perche is one of many beautifully designed ustensils of the series Fluid-dynamic Cooking Paddles (Les pagaies du gourmet in French). These are maple kitchen spoons (and other maple ustensils) conceived to be an "extension of the hands". The forms are pure, the completion is perfectly smooth... these are true art objects, as pleasant to admire as to hold. As soon as I tested the pagaie-perche, I knew that I would need, sooner or later, to get more of the series signed by Tom Littledeer, the inventor of these astute paddles. But somehow, I never managed to buy any other for myself. These seem to be made to give, not to buy for oneself.
Two years later, whereas I had organized a christmas supper for my Colibri's associate and his fiancee, these two had some cold sweats when they saw me handling my pagaie-perche. What I didn't know was that they had bought four Fluid-dynamic Cooking Paddles, which they were just about to give me; seeing me with one, they suddenly feared that the rest of the series lied somewhere in my drawers...
By a fortunate coincidence, they had rather chosen the «écope à pot», the «lamebois», the «aviron du chef» et finally the «cueilletout»... supplementing thus marvelously well my collection!
What a spoiled cook am I! And I hope this will encourage you to spoil your friends too ;-)
